The Beginning:
As
recently as the 1970's, women's history was virtually an
unknown topic in the K-12 curriculum or in general
public consciousness. To address this situation, the
Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California)
Commission on the Status of Women initiated a "Women's
History Week" celebration for 1978. We chose the week of
March 8 to make International Women's Day the focal
point of the observance. The activities that were held
met with enthusiastic response, and within a few years
dozens of schools planned special programs for Women's
History Week, over one-hundred community women
participated in the Community Resource Women Project, an
annual "Real Woman" Essay Contest drew hundreds of
entries, and we were staging a marvelous annual parade
and program in downtown Santa Rosa, California.

Norman Kaye is in Dire Need of

Norman Kaye, of the Mary Kaye trio and a
true
pioneer legend in the Las Vegas
entertainment scene
is having some health issues. He has
been hospitalized for quite some time
now and, this Friday he will have to
check out of the Rehabilitation center
because he can no longer afford $186.00
a day, which is what he has to pay in
order to receive the care he needs.

 Monster
Jam is an annual monster truck event held in Las
Vegas. Monster Jam is the largest touring
motorsports property in the world. With the help
of Las Vegas, the Monster Jam World Finals has
become a "weekend experience" where 45 monster
truck teams converge.
It is the
championship event of the USHRA Monster Jam
series. It consists of racing and freestyle
segments, and the winner of each is considered
the series champion in that division for the
coming year. The freestyle is especially notable
as the track layout is typically the most
extreme all season, with every obstacle being
considered large, and it often produces a
multitude of crashes. It is the highest profile
monster truck event in the country. |
