Since 1994, Tom Axtell has served as
the general manager for Vegas PBS.
Under his leadership and direction,
Vegas has tripled its annual
revenues and become one of the ten
most viewed PBS stations in the
United States. He’s been
instrumental in the launch of a vast
array of new video technologies and
he’s helped Vegas PBS become a
nationally recognized PBS innovator
in educational services, community
outreach and entrepreneurial
ventures. In February 2008, he
spoke to the EAS Summit (Emergency
Alert System) in Washington, D.C.,
regarding Vegas PBS’ role in the new
innovations of School Emergency
Alerting and Response System
(SEARS.) Metro expects this system
to be the model for all major
security systems in the US by 2011.
SEARS is just one of the many major
projects that Axtell has spearheaded
in his fourteen years at Vegas PBS.
Axtell’s public television
experience includes service as
co-chair for PBS K-12 Education Task
Force, board member of the National
Educational Telecommunications
Network, council member for Forum of
Public Television Executives,
legislative advisory council member
for America’s Public Television
Stations, board member of Satellite
Educational Resources Consortium and
president of Nevada Public
Broadcasting Association.
Since 2000, Axtell has served on the
PBS Board of Directors and also
currently serves on boards for the
Nevada Broadcaster’s Association,
Las Vegas Educational Cable
Consortium and Las Vegas Chamber of
Commerce. He is a board member
on the Nevada Test Site Development
Corporation and the lieutenant
governor’s Economic Diversification
Task Force. In addition,
Axtell is a member of the Las Vegas
Rotary Club and the Hispanic Chamber
of Commerce. |
