This posting is about
another funny email from a friend. It’s funny because it’s so off-base
and factually wrong. For me, slashing through this posting is like a
99-yard run to the end zone without being touched by one tackler. |

I’ve been
waiting to write on this email for a few days now. This is so ripe with bias and
idiocy.
The
email is a parody that says the Pittsburgh Steelers have to return 3 of
their 6 Super Bowl trophies by order of President Obama.

Obama’s plan calls for the Steelers, who are a successful NFL team, to give half
of their Super Bowl trophies to teams that are not successful or have not been
as successful as the Steelers. “The Detroit Loins are just as much a part of the
same fiber of the NFL as the Steelers and they should, no rather will, be
entitled to a Super Bowl Trophy as well.” Obama explains in his plan that he has
imposed on (NFL Commissioner) Godel and the NFL.
If you
send this to anyone without the subject line, “This is so stupid it’s funny”,
then you’re guilty of being a political shill.
First, the
owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dan Rooney, is a life-long Republican who
publicly backed Obama. Mr. Rooney is now Ambassador Rooney living in Dublin,
Ireland.
Second,
the NFL, if looked at with an economist’s eye, is the most Socialistic
organization in America. It restricts how much money a team can pay its
players. It also makes teams share – that Marxist word – revenues.
They
should re-name the Philadelphia Eagles the Philly Trotskies. (It works if you
had a bad Philly Cheese Steak if you catch my trot drift.) And why not re-dub
the Patriots the New England Comrades? Belechek, Apparachik; It’s all borscht
to me.
Why is
this manly organization that is considered a pillar of American strength and
ingenuity really so Marxist? They want to create parity among the teams.
Ironically, the league is financially successful. One reason: each year each
team actually has a chance to win a Super Bowl. There aren’t too many dynasties
in the NFL. And look the lowly Phoenix Cardinals were only 20-seconds away from
winning the Super Bowl and legitimately taking away a trophy from the Steelers.
In other
words, the Communists like Paul Tagliabu, Roger Goodell, and the late Wellington
Mara, along with Dan Rooney, created a level playing field so each team could
compete and thrive.
If
the creator of this email had his or her way only the New York Giants, due to
their market size and the amount of money they can earn, would win each Super
Bowl? That would be like Wall Street controlling every law without regard to
Main Street.
That’s
just the sports side of it.
Obama is
raising the tax rate. But he’s raising it to the rates seen in the Reagan and
Clinton terms from 36 to 39 % — in two years.
Now, if
Obama raises it to 90%, as it was during the term of that Sandinista Dwight D.
Eisenhower, then you can make a good case for Obama’s place in Red Square.
Unfortunately, this silly thinking has been created by both political parties.
The Republicans have convinced too many Americans that they’re rich, while
Democrats have made too many Americans think they’re entitled to jobs.
We’re
neither rich nor entitled: we’re greedy. (That internet posting, however, shows
we’re also stupid about politics as well as sports.)
The
low-tax, high spend era of Bush and the end of Clinton created the
housing, stock, oil, and credit bubbles that have put us into this mess. Add to
that, the excessive amounts of political donor money that have created an
unlevel playing field that has hurt the small business person in favor of big
business.
But
finally now, we have an Administration that’s looking at the big picture. He may
not succeed and he may make some bad moves. But he’s what the country wanted
after the previous eight years.
Meanwhile,
the small-thinking folks – like the creators of this Weapon of Mass Distortion —
are in the minority. I describe them as the
Stupid-Rich. They’re hoping to keep things as they are. They don’t want to
work harder to re-tool and prepare for a new world economy. Instead, they’d
rather go back to the same strategies that got us in this mess.
They kind
of remind you of the Detroit Lions last year. Or better yet, this type thinking
is not even wide right — it’s been blocked.
