This
is a posting about my recent opinion columns on the economy and the
Obama efforts to right the ship. I’m definitely on the President’s side
with a few exceptions. As a result, I’m getting labeled as a liberal or
a Socialist. I did some research on my past columns to prove my point.

I’m no liberal. In fact, I’m a fiscal conservative.
That
might be hard for you to believe. After all, I think the President’s stimulus
package is too small. I think we need close to $1.5 trillion – nearly double the
amount. Without it, the economy will remain in recession longer. I hope I’m
wrong.
That doesn’t sound like a fiscal conservative. Well, it is. But
times have changed. This is no time to worry about deficits. The time was three
years ago. That time has past. We need to put out the fire now.
When the economy returns to health, then we need to tighten our
belts and drop deficits. But we can’t create revenues – to go along with
spending cuts – until we get America working again.
I’ve gone back into my archives to show you that I am no liberal
big spender. I have always agreed with a low-tax policy that would spur economic
activity. The problem with the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress
was this: they cut taxes but failed to cut spending. In reality, they made
things worse by depleting the Treasury and forcing bigger deficits on our kids –
the same argument we hear from the same Republicans who broke the bank.
Just for the record, read this
column of mine from more than a year ago. I
endorse who I think should be President. After reading this, tell me if you
think I’m a liberal when you consider the things I was begging our leaders to
do. I like to think I stand for common sense and that most of you stand with me.
