The Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders Touch Down In Bagram

I had the pleasure of a chance introduction with Sarah, Jessie, Amanda, and Peyton, as well as a coordinator for the Minnesota Viking’s Cheerleaders as they stood in line for chow at the DFAC.

Sarah, who is the Captain of the team, encouraged me to come see the show. That evening I joined a couple hundred service members to watch the cheerleaders perform their routines on stage at the Clamshell. I may have been about the only female present to watch the performance but I was extremely surprised and thankful I attended as the Minnesota Viking Cheerleaders showed their support by cheering on the troops.

This was the final performance of a ten day tour after entertaining troops in Qatar, Jalalabad, Fob Blessing, Kabul, Fob Sharana, and more. The Vikings Cheerleaders opened the show by speaking to the troops and claiming to have saved the best for last.

This stunning final performance included a witty presentation, cheerleading to the Nancy Sinatra hit “These boots are made for walking”.

They also shared the spotlight with service members who were willing to enter a Push-Up competition or compete for the best Touchdown dance.  Another really great high-light of this event was watching a solo performance as one cheerleader used every inch of the stage to cast her dance interpretation of the famed classic “Let Me Entertain You” from the musical “Gypsy”. I didn’t even blink; I didn’t want to miss a move.  These girls were amazing, clever, hardworking, and eager to bring to the troops the morale they have all been missing. It didn’t matter if there were any Minnesota fans among us. We were all fans for the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders that night.

I think almost everyone waited in line after the show to get an autograph and pose for a photo with the MV Cheerleaders. I would like to thank the girls for an awesome performance, all their hard work it took to be here for us. And, finally, thank you girls for posing for my camera when you saw me. And I hope you visit us again.

Note: Many of the female Soldiers here are wondering if the guys from Thunder Down Under will find a way to visit us gals in Bagram.
