For the third consecutive year, Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET) has designated Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI)  as the official charity for the World Series of Poker, the most prestigious gaming event in the world, beginning May 30 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

“Nevada Cancer Institute is a wonderful community partner for the World Series of Poker,” said Jeffrey Pollack, World Series of Poker commissioner.  “The work NVCI’s researchers and physicians are doing at NVCI resonates not only locally, but around the world by expanding the field of knowledge about this disease.”

All participants will have the opportunity to relax in the VIP Lounge, dubbed the “Ace’s Club” throughout the entire tournament. The lounge features food, beverage, a masseuse and even a separated game room with all the latest games and gadgets. All the funds raised from the cost of admission will go directly towards cancer research, education and treatment at NVCI.

“The World Series of Poker brings an excitement and buzz that enhances the Las Vegas economy every summer,” said Sandra Murdock, NVCI president and chief executive officer. “We are thrilled to be a community partner with the Harrah’s organization and are thankful for their dedication to the health and future of the community.”

There will be an estimated 11,300 Nevadans diagnosed with cancer this year, according to the American Cancer Society. Unfortunately, more than 4,600 Nevadans are estimated to succumb to cancer in 2008, ACS reports. NVCI is committed to reducing the burden of cancer through research, education, early detection, prevention and high-quality patient care.

The 39th annual World Series of Poker will take place from May 30th to July 14th at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  The Main Event will begin on July 3rd, with the Final Table being determined on July 14th. The nine players who advance to the Final Table will return to the Rio on November 9th to play down to just two players.   The final two will go head-to-head late in the evening on November 10th to determine the champion and winner of poker’s ultimate prize.
