Statewide Foreclosure Taskforce and KTNV Channel 13

to Host Foreclosure Prevention Phone-A-Thon

The Nevada Statewide Foreclosure Taskforce and KTNV Channel 13 will host a Foreclosure Prevention phone-a-thon on Thursday, December 11.  The taskforce, a coalition of various state, local, and non-profit community agencies, as well as other private partners, is joining forces with loan servicers to address homeowners’ questions about avoiding foreclosure. The number to call between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on December 11 is (702) 257-8494. Bilingual operators will be available.

To assist troubled borrowers, there will be a phone bank of six lines staffed by representatives from non-profit organizations who will answer questions and provide preliminary counseling.  Where appropriate, callers will be transferred to representatives from their loan servicer to discuss the details of their individual mortgage.  Representatives from Washington Mutual, Countrywide/Bank of America, and Wells Fargo will be on site to speak directly to their borrowers.

The phone-a-thon precedes a two-day foreclosure event being hosted by the Centennial Hills Community Center and coordinated by the Cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas in conjunction with Countrywide/Bank of America.  At this event, borrowers will be able, by appointment, to meet in person with representatives from Bank of America to discuss their loans.

The phone-a-thon is another means of providing financially strapped borrowers with the information and resources they need to save their homes if possible.  Borrowers may also visit ForeclosureHelp.nv.gov, a website created by Governor Gibbons to assist Nevada homeowners who may be facing foreclosure.  The website is a comprehensive resource designed to help borrowers make informed decisions if they are struggling to make their mortgage payments.  The website includes an up-to-date list of events at which borrowers can learn how to prevent foreclosure or speak directly to loan servicers.
