The Clark County Board of County Commissioners today approved a non-exclusive contract with Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) to provide radiation oncology services for University Medical Center (UMC).

The contract with Clark County is for NVCI to provide radiation oncology services for University Medical Center patients effective immediately. The non-exclusive contract is for three years.

UMC does not have radiation oncology services available onsite. Radiation oncology services will be provided to UMC patients at NVCI’s facility.

“Nevada Cancer Institute is pleased to have been approved by the Board of County Commissioners to provide radiation oncology services for University Medical Center,” said Sandy Murdock, NVCI president and chief executive officer. “The Institute already is a partner with UMC, providing oncology care at UMC, and has been proud to participate in the rigorous review process for the radiation oncology services.”

NVCI’s Radiation Oncology Department is accredited by numerous organizations, including the American College of Radiation Oncology, Seattle Prostate Institute, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and American Board of Radiology. The department also is an affiliate member of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group.

NVCI uses state-of-the-art equipment housed in a modern facility and includes TomoTherapy High-Art system, Siemens Oncor linear accelerator with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) capabilities and a Siemens Emotion 6 CT Simulator.

NVCI approaches radiation oncology care with the full-team approach providing each patient with individual case management, planning and appropriate treatment delivery, focusing on the best possible outcome for every patient.

“We look forward to welcoming UMC radiation oncology patients to NVCI and offering them the highest quality care in a high-tech environment,” said David Pomerantz, M.D., director of clinical radiation oncology.

Anita Pomerantz, M.D., director of radiation oncology clinical research, also will treat UMC radiation oncology patients at NVCI.
