Not
many universities across the world have classes in wine tasting, but here at
UNLV, wine tasting is not only a course, it is also a source for scholarship
funding.
The UNLVino event took place April 3-5 at The Hard Rock (Bubble-Licious)- the tasting of bubbles – champagne; The District (Auss-Some and Then Some) – tasting Australian, New Zealand and South African wines and the third part of the ‘winerama’ was at Bally’s for the Grand Tasting (wine tasting from all over the globe).
The event commenced in
1974 and has increased its prominence and importance over the past 34 years. It
backs up a truly good cause, enabling the school to have scholarship funds for
those who wish to get a degree from UNLV.
There were even wines from Las Vegas! Vegas Vino (a local label) provided sample bottles for attendees. Lou Ruvo, CEO, of Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada contributed greatly over the years to the success of this worthy cause.
Student volunteers helped throughout the “party tastings” and got the experience of dealing with the public at hospitality and fund raising event.
More endowments in different fields of study should be given to UNLV for it is university of many facets, not just that of hotel and hospitality. The various different schools within the university are currently facing budget cuts by the state and UNLV as an entire diversified university needs more fundraisers to help it keep on growing.
Cheers! Here’s to you…
